Hair PRP

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a therapy that uses the patient’s own platelet-rich blood plasma. Blood is drawn and processed to get the platelet-rich plasma portion, which is then injected into the scalp. PRP contains various growth factors that help support hair follicle activity.

What concerns can it address?

PRP is the most studied for androgenetic alopecia (pattern baldness in men and women).

Studies show PRP has the potential to increase hair density and help reduce hair loss.

However, not all causes of hair loss suit PRP treatment. That is why the cause of hair loss needs to be evaluated by a doctor first.

How does it work?

PRP contains various growth factors that play a role in tissue repair. After PRP is given to the scalp, these growth factors are expected to help support the hair follicle environment so hair growth can be more optimal.

How long is the procedure and recovery?

A PRP procedure takes about 30-60 minutes, including preparing the serum and the injections. After the procedure, patients can usually go home and return to their activities. Hair PRP generally does not need a long recovery time.

How many times is it needed?

Hair PRP is best done at least once every 3 weeks for better results.

When do results start to show?

Results depend heavily on how often the treatment is repeated. However, according to research, hair PRP gives satisfying results for treating hair loss.

Does it need to be combined with other treatments?

Hair PRP can be combined with exosome serum or secretome in the same session. Topical minoxidil can also be considered for better results. Consult your doctor first.

What to know before and after the treatment?

Before PRP

Make sure the doctor knows all the medications and supplements you take

Especially blood thinners and NSAID pain relievers such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or aspirin.

Do not stop prescription medication on your own. The doctor decides whether it needs to be paused temporarily.

Come with a clean scalp. It is best to wash your hair before the procedure.

Avoid gel, pomade, hair spray, hair oil, or products that irritate the scalp on the day of the procedure.

Do not have chemical hair treatments close to PRP

Temporarily avoid coloring, bleaching, smoothing/rebonding, or other treatments that can irritate the scalp.

Tell the doctor if you have any health problems or a scalp infection.

After PRP

0–24 hours

Do not scratch or massage the scalp.

Avoid strenuous exercise and activities that make your head sweat a lot. Avoid saunas or excessive heat.

Do not use hair styling products.

Do not apply minoxidil straight onto the scalp. Put it off for about 2×24 hours to reduce irritation.

You can wash your hair the next day

24–72 hours

Wash your hair gently, do not rub hard. Avoid hair products that cause stinging or itching. Avoid chemical hair treatments.

Return to exercise gradually once your scalp feels comfortable.

Slight redness, pain, swelling, or bruising can occur and usually improves within a few days.
