Pico Laser

What is the Pico Laser treatment

Pico Laser is a laser technology treatment that uses laser energy in a very short duration (picosecond) to target pigment and help stimulate skin renewal. This treatment can be adjusted to your skin’s condition and needs, so it can be used for various pigmentation concerns as well as skin quality improvement.

What concerns can it address

Pico Laser can help with dark spots, acne marks, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, dull skin, and helps improve and smooth skin texture. For certain indications, this technology can also be used to help fade tattoos.

How does it work

Laser energy in a very short duration creates a photomechanical effect on the pigment target, helping to break pigment particles into smaller pieces that the body then processes naturally. At certain settings, Pico Laser can also give stimulation that supports regeneration and collagen formation.

Who is it for

Pico Laser can be considered for men and women with pigmentation concerns, dull skin, uneven skin tone, or who want to improve the look of their skin texture and quality. The laser parameters must be adjusted to each person’s skin condition.

How long is the procedure and recovery

The procedure generally takes about 20–45 minutes, depending on the area and indication. After the procedure, the skin can have mild redness or a feeling of warmth that is usually temporary. Some patients can go straight back to their activities.

How many times is it needed

The number of treatments is adjusted to the indication and the skin’s response.

In general:

  • Laser toning and brightening: about 3–6 sessions, about 4 weeks apart, followed by an evaluation
  • Certain spots or pigmentation: about 1–4 sessions, 4 weeks apart, followed by an evaluation
  • Pores and skin rejuvenation: about 3–6 sessions, 4 weeks apart, followed by an evaluation
  • Melasma: needs a gradual, controlled program with a combination of treatments.
  • Tattoo removal: can take about 5-10 sessions or more, 4-8 weeks apart, followed by an evaluation

When do results start to show

Progress differs for each skin concern.

  • Skin can look brighter after a few days to a few weeks.
  • Uneven skin tone improves gradually after several sessions.
  • Melasma can show changes after 3-12 months with a combination of treatments.
  • Dark acne marks fade gradually.
  • Pores and skin texture start to improve after 8 – 12 weeks with a combination of treatments.
  • Collagen formation can keep developing over several weeks to several months.
  • A tattoo will fade gradually after each session.

Pigmentation results are not always permanent because spots can come back due to sun exposure, hormones, inflammation, genetic factors, and the use of products that irritate the skin.

Does it need to be combined with other treatments

Pico Laser can be combined with other treatments depending on skin condition, such as:

  • Subcision, for acne scars that are tethered inward
  • TCA CROSS, for certain types of acne scars
  • Skin booster or Salmon DNA, to improve hydration and skin quality
  • Facial Therapy, to help keep the skin clean and healthy
  • Lhala Peel, to care for the skin surface; avoid adding irritation when the skin has not recovered.
  • Xelarederm / SKINVIVE / CROMA, helps hydration and skin quality; not a replacement for pigment therapy.

Combinations are not always done on the same day. The doctor will decide a safe order and spacing so the skin does not get too irritated.

Consult a GLOSKIN doctor

Not all spots have the same type and depth. A doctor’s examination is needed to tell apart pigmentation that can be treated with laser from conditions that need another approach, as well as differences in cause, depth, and response to laser. Choosing a wavelength or energy that is not right can trigger irritation, burns, hyperpigmentation, or hypopigmentation.
